Welcome to Christ Lutheran Church

Christ Church is an active community of faith. Grounded in Holy Baptism, we worship and serve God, Father, Son and Holy Spirit. Our life and ministry centers in the weekly liturgy of Word and Sacrament. We hold our historic past with affection and face the future with joyful confidence and hope.

We are pleased to welcome all visitors and newcomers and we hope you will return to worship with us again.

Nursery care for infants and preschool children is available during both the liturgy and the education hour. Children grades Kindergarten and up join in the worship service. You are encouraged to bring your children from the nursery when the offertory begins so they can participate in the Holy Communion. Bulletins and crayons for children are available from the ushers.

If you have no home church in the York area, we invite you to consider membership in Christ Church.

Learning Together

Christian Education in our parish has as its aim full participation, of all people, in the covenant of Holy Baptism. Opportunities include:

Sunday morning classes for all ages

Bible study

Confirmation ministry

Inter-generational events

Field trips for all ages

Courses in the Sacraments for children

Retreats for all ages

Participation in singing and choirs

Music

Luther referred to music as "the handmaiden of theology" and, to that end, our music always seeks as its primary goal the glorification of God. We offer a graded choir program for all ages, beginning with Kindergarten. Handbells and other instrumental ensembles rehearse on a regular basis. Many concerts are offered to our parish and to the greater York community, including the Sanctuary Series of Recitals.

Youth Ministry

Youth Ministry is envisioned as holistic at Christ Church, and provides opportunities for youth to be engaged in ministry both as receivers and doers. Four age groupings provide structure for activities: Alpha Grades K-2, Plunge Grades 3-6, Junior  and Senior Youth Grades 7-12. The Confirmation Ministry Program provides integration of faith and life during the junior youth years.

Social Ministry

Christ Church is actively engaged in social outreach in the community. A Lutheran Social Services Case Manager serves here. We support Our Daily Bread soup kitchen,  the annual CROP walk, Habitat and local food and clothing pantries. We work with various community agencies to alleviate suffering and work for the good of all.

Fellowship

Fellowship is an important aspect of our life in Christ. Our primary fellowship is our sharing in the Gospel, Word and Sacrament. We also believe that knitting together the bonds of community is vital for our life together. From Sunday morning coffee to shared meals to our Advent Crafts Workshop to baseball, dinner theater and other trips, we strive to provide time and space to be together. One highlight is the annual Parish Retreat, held in late August.

Pastoral Care

The pastors are available for various types of pastoral care including counseling, visitation of those who are ill, sacramental visits, pre-marital and baptismal preparation. The ministry of our pastors is supplemented by the work of our Parish Visitor, Stephen Ministers, Lay Eucharistic Ministers and others who reach out with caring and concern.
