About Christ Church....

Classically Lutheran in worship and service, Christ Church was the first Lutheran congregation west of the Susquehanna River.  It has been serving its members, its community and the nation since its first baptism in 1733.  The present building dates from 1812 and is the third edifice used for worship by the congregation.  In 1744 a log building was erected, and was the first school building west of the Susquehanna.  Replaced in 1760 by a stone building, two bells from that steeple still call people to worship here.  At least three Lutheran congregations are descendants of Christ Church.

With a view to the traditions of the church catholic, Christ Church strives to minister in faithfulness to the Lutheran Confessions.  Our ministry centers in the weekly liturgy of Word and Sacrament and pursues particular Lutheran emphases in art and music, fellowship, education, and pastoral care.

Today Christ Church is an active congregation which holds its historic past with affection and approaches the future with confidence and hope as we carry on the mission of Christ in these times.
